Hall of Fame Inductee - Candi Sederwall
The 1980's provided Quincy High School with a number of outstanding
athletes, but few were as versatile as Candi Sederwall. A standout
performer in junior high; Sederwall led the Lady Comets basketball team
to the state tournament, captured first in three events at the district
track meet and later starred for the Quincy Junior Jets softball
program. A natural in five different sports Sederwall can boast of
having earned a spot in the starting lineup in volleyball, basketball
and softball and three varsity letters while in her freshman year. As a
sophomore Sederwall again earned three varsity letters and was named to
two All-Tournament teams in both volleyball and basketball. But it was
on the softball diamond where she excelled. Asked to pitch out of
necessity, Sederwall turned in an outstanding record and fired a
conference best three no-hit games. During her junior year, Sederwall
captured spots on the All Western Big Six and Quincy Herald Whig
All-Area basketball teams. And on the softball diamond Candi batted .350
and pitched in every game. Sederwall turned in impressive records in
all three sports during her senior year. She was chosen as a co-captain
on the volleyball squad and was again selected to two All-Tournament
teams. She retained her spot on the All-Western Big Six squad and was
named to the Champaign News Gazette All-State team all while setting a
school record for terminations. Sederwall then went about putting
together a monster season on the hard court, collecting All-Tournament
honors in Hannibal and East St. Louis, and winning spots on the
All-Western Big Six and Herald Whig All Area teams. She was selected as
the team's co-captain, Most Valuable Player, was the team's best free
throw shooter and set a school scoring mark with 1,197 points. She
graduated as the all-time leading scorer. Sederwall capped a great high
school career by being named to the Herald Whig All-Area team for her
efforts on the softball diamond and starred in the McDonald's/Herald
Whig All-Star basketball game later that summer.
