Hall of Fame Inductee - Dave Harvey

Dave Harvey was in the first class to enter into the 1960's. A multi-talented athlete, Harvey collected varsity letters in basketball, baseball and football while at Quincy High. He was quarterback of the football team in both his junior and senior years. And after his senior season Harvey was selected to the All-State team of the Chicago Daily News. Parade Magazine chose him as an All-American for that publication. The University of Missouri offered Harvey a scholarship to play football for the Tigers. He took it, but while on campus, Harvey turned to his first real love baseball. As a sophomore the Tigers won the Big Eight Conference title and earned a spot in the college World Series with Harvey as shortstop. The following season he moved to third base, batted .378 and again led Missouri to the conference title and another spot in the World Series. His efforts earned him all-conference and second team All-American honors. Harvey's senior season was one for the record books. The All-American played flawlessly at third base and batted .418 as Missouri captured the Big Eight title for the third consecutive year. The Tigers again made it to the World Series, and this time finished second. Harvey repeated as an all-conference selection, and was chosen to his third straight All-American team. He signed a professional contract with the Minnesota Twins after graduating from Missouri, but later returned to Columbia, earning his Masters Degree in 1966. Harvey served in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps from 1967 through 1970, leaving the service with the rank of Captain.
