Hall of Fame Inductee - Don Stroot
Stroot, a 1946 Quincy High School graduate, was a 6-foot-7 basketball
center in an era before the emergence of seven-footers. He lettered on
the
1945 Blue Devil team that finished third in the state tournament, and he
earned All-State recognition in 1945-46. Stroot scored 482 points
during his senior season, including 23 of Quincy's 49 points in a state
tournament quarterfinal loss. He later was voted the most valuable
player on the South team in the annual North-South all-star game. Stroot
went on to play at the University of Missouri, and later for the
outstanding Caterpillar Tractors team in the National Industrial League.
He was inducted into the Quincy High Sports Hall of Fame in 1986.
