Hall of Fame Inductee - F. Morgan Taylor
Coaches sometimes call on their experience in times of need. Just think
about the experience possessed by F. Morgan Taylor. Prior to teaching
and coaching track in the 1930's at Quincy Senior High, Taylor was known
to run in some pretty visible circles. Taylor captured medals in not 1,
but 3 different Olympic Games. He captured the gold medal in the 400
meter hurdles in Paris, France in 1924 with a then record time of :52.6.
In 1928, while running for the Illinois Athletic Club of Chicago, Taylor
placed third in the same event. And 4 years later Taylor brought home
another bronze medal in the 400 meter hurdles. His Olympic
accomplishments and 4 national AAU championships in the hurdles won him
election to the prestigious Helms Foundation national Hall of Fame in
1967.
