Hall of Fame Inductee - Herman Pinkelman
There are people who make lasting impressions on the youth of a
community. Coach Herman Pinkelman is just such a person. For 32 years
Pinkelman helped mold and shape the minds and bodies of those students
who attended Quincy Junior High. He did so in the classroom, in the
hallways, on football fields, on basketball courts and where ever he
went during his days as a teacher and coach. A veteran of World War II,
Pinkelman served in the U.S. Army with the 8th Air Force in England as a
member of a B-17 bomber combat crew. He flew missions with the 490th
Bomber Group and later with the 851st Bomb Squadron. After the war,
Pinkelman returned home and attended Quincy College, where he graduated
with his bachelor's degree in education. He later earned his master's
degree from the University of Illinois. Pinkelman coached a number of
sports, including football, basketball, and track at the Junior HIgh
level for 20 years. During that time he taught the fundamentals that
enabled many Quincy High athletes achieve great success at the varsity
level and beyond.
