Hall of Fame Inductee - John Potts Jr.
When you walk into Blue Devil gym you see his hard work everywhere.
It’s reflected in the records that are recorded on both the north and
south wall. His name is John Potts and through his efforts we’re able
to document and track one of the most successful high school basketball
programs in the United States. Potts began this task in 1974 while
still a student at Quincy High. This two-year project resulted in a 94
page record book, which covered over 7 decades of basketball excellence.
Potts graduated from QHS in 1975---then attended Quincy College where
he earned a degree in communication arts. A long time member of the
Quincy Herald-Whig Sports Staff, Potts covered Quincy High Sports
through 1984. He assisted on a 40 page update of the Quincy High record
book in 1990, and plans on celebrating the program’s 100th anniversary
with a third edition. A long time friend of the Quincy High Basketball
program, John Potts has made following the Blue Devils a pleasure. He,
along with wife, Kelly, and son Troy reside in Quincy.
