Hall of Fame Inductee - Mike Nobis
Mike Nobis has never been afraid of hard work. In fact, he thrives on
it. Earning a total of 15 varsity letters during his high school and
college career, Nobis displayed versatility rarely seen before or since.
While at Quincy High Nobis earned letters in football, wrestling and
track. During his senior year he was a stalwart as a 165 pound
linebacker for a Quincy team that would win the Western Big Six
Conference (5-0) while recording a season mark of 8-1. Nobis enjoyed
wrestling at the 167 pound weight class his junior and senior years, but
track and field is where he really excelled. Earning 3 varsity letters,
Nobis excelled in the low hurdles and was a member of the shuttle relay
team that set four local relay records and won a number of medals.
After graduating from QHS in 1972, Nobis attended Millikin University in
Decatur where he collected four varsity letters in football and four
more in track. On the football field Nobis earned status on the
specialty teams and on the offensive line. In track, Nobis again
excelled in the 400 meter hurdles and other 400 meter events. During his
senior year he received the prestigious Dr. William H. Byrd student
athlete award - which is presented annually to the student who
contributes the most to the overall athletic program while maintaining a
high level of academics throughout their college career. Mike graduated
from Millikin with a degree in marketing in 1976. Today, Nobis and his
family reside in Quincy where he is currently President of JK Creative
Printers.
