Hall of Fame Inductee - Mike O'Connell
With a name like Mike O'Connell this guy couldn't be anything BUT an
outstanding golfer. And he's done the name proud. O'Connell, a 1988
graduate, was a 4 time letterman for the Blue Devil golf team that
enjoyed great success during the 80's, including a third place finish in
the state in 1987. O'Connell was medallist in 3 tournaments his
junior year and another 2 during his senior season, earning him special
recognition as the team's MVP in 1986 and All-Western Big Six and
All-State honors both in 86' and again in 87'. O'Connell was a member
of the Blue Devil's 1987 basketball team that made it to the state's
final four. As a senior the following year, he averaged just over 10
points per game and was selected to the Thanksgiving All-Tournament
Team. O'Connell attended the University of Notre Dame on a golf
scholarship, where he graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Business
Administration. While at Notre Dame he was a force on the links,
winning a monogram four consecutive years. He was the Midwest Collegiate
Conference Champion in 1990 and named to the All-Conference team that
same year. In 1991 O'Connell was Notre Dame's golf MVP. He was chosen
as the team captain in 1992. After graduation O'Connell's duties took
him to the PGA TOUR as a caddy for D.A. Weibring. He played
professional golf on the Lone Star Tour in 1997. He's currently the
Player Relations Manager for Peter Jacobsen Productions.
