Hall of Fame Inductee - Monzel Jackson
Jackson, a 1949 graduate was a basketball and track standout at both Quincy High School and Western Illinois University.
As a junior, he was named to the all-state fourth team after scoring
287 points. The Blue Devils finished with a 16-6 record after they lost
to Canton in the first round of the state tournament. As a senior,
Jackson scored 461 points for a 13-10 team. His 37 points against Quincy
Notre Dame was then a single-game record. He was named to the Chicago
Daily News all-state first team. Jackson was also a three-year letterman
in track, participating in both the high jump and long jump.
Jackson was Western Illinois' leading rebounder during both his
freshman and sophomore years, and his 417 rebounds as a sophomore was
not only a school record at the time but also ranked him second among
all small colleges. He averaged 22.5 points as a junior. He was WIU's
most valuable player as a sophomore and as a junior.
