Hall of Fame Inductee - Pat McCulla
McCulla, a 1977 graduate, excelled in throwing the discus and the shot
put for the track team at QHS. He was second in the state discus
competition in 1976 and won the championship the following year with a
toss of 176 feet, six inches. His winning distance was the fifth-best in
the nation. He won the Western Big Six Conference title in the discus
three straight years.
He was sixth in a major national high school meet in 1977 and
established a state record toss of 193 feet, 10 inches that was not a
part of the state championship series. He holds school records in both
the discus and shot put.
At the University of Kentucky, McCulla was a four-year All-American and
finished third in the NCAA in 1981. That year, he was voted athlete of
the year in the Southeastern Conference.
