Hall of Fame Inductee - Robert Grieser
The captain of the football, baseball and track teams at QHS in 1914-15, Robert Grieser made a name for himself on the gridiron. The starting quarterback for the 1914 team, Grieser was dubbed the "great quarter back that ever battled for the honor of Q.H.S.," according to the Quincy Journal. Newspaper articles say he was "One hundred and twenty-five pounds of pure nerve" and his name "will go down in high school history as one of the heroes of the school."
Grieser went to the University of Illinois and fought for the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1918, Grieser was part of the Convois Automobile and was actually a German prisoner for a brief period before being saved by a counter attack of the French. Grieser died in 1979.
