Hall of Fame Inductee - Spencer Vasen
Spencer Vasen attended Quincy High in the late 1920's lettering in
football, basketball and golf. He's best remembered for his work on the
gridiron where he excelled as a linebacker and kicker on the 1927 &
28 teams. Vasen was recognized as an all-star in the then, Mississippi
Valley Conference in 1927 and was named to the All-State team in 1928,
becoming the first Quincy High football player to achieve that honor.
Vasen attended Knox College in 1930's and again was a standout on the
football team, lettering 3 years as a halfback and linebacker. After
graduation, Vasen settled in Quincy, where he enjoyed a long career in
banking. Known as a fine golfer, Vasen won back to back Spring Lake
Country Club Championships in 1947 & 48. Mr. Vasen was the president
of Quincy Peoples Savings and Loan for many years. He passed away in
1977.
