Hall of Fame Inductee - Trina Casburn
1995 QHS graduate, Girls Golf
One of the most decorated golfers
in Quincy High School history,
Casburn made her mark with three
straight top-10 finishes at the Illinois
state tournament. She is one of
three QHS golfers — Allison Seller,
1976-78, and Val Brennan, 1981-83
— with three state medals.
As a sophomore in 1992, Casburn
finished in 10th place. As a junior,
she finished second at the sectional
tournament and fifth at the state
tournament. The best was yet to
come. As a senior, Casburn won the
Western Big Six Conference title and
was medalist at the regional tournament
before finishing second at the
state tournament.
She matched Brennan, who finished
second in 1983, for the highest
state finish by a QHS girls golfer.
In her four-year varsity career,
Casburn earned All-WB6 honors four
times and held the team’s low stroke
average each season. She was a
three-time team MVP and received
the Illinois Girls Coaches Association
Award three times. She also played
in the Quincy Women’s City
Tournament four times, finishing second
in 1993 and winning three
straight titles from 1994-96.
While in high school, Casburn participated
in Beta Club, Natural
Helpers and student council. She was
a member of the National Honor
Society and the Society of Academic
Achievement, while earning the
Presidents Education Award and
scholastic high honors.
She received an athletic scholarship
from Wake Forest University,
where she became a four-year letterwinner,
received the Scholar-Athlete
Award and was named to the Dean’s
list each semester.
She earned a master’s degree in
business administration from the
University of New Orleans and worked
for The Hartford in the Philadelphia
suburbs.
She is now a financial consultant
at Wachovia Securities LLC, in
Quincy.
Acceptance Speech
"It is quite an honor to be inducted
into the Quincy Senior High School
Hall of Fame. Every year so many
great athletes come out of QHS.
Every coach and every teacher I’ve
had from volleyball, basketball, soccer
and golf and from Spanish to geometry
have had an impact on my life, as
they do on all of their students’ and
players’ lives. You should all be very
proud of yourselves. And of course,
Mom and Dad (Bob and Sandy),
thanks for your encouragement and
guidance."
